Tripdata was founded in 1999 by Dan Powers in Boulder, Colorado. Following a stint working for an adventure travel company researching Antarctic and African expeditions, Dan saw an opportunity to serve a certain niche of travelers. “Many clients were looking for specific activities or accommodations that were not available through this company’s vendors,” says Dan. With a reputation among his professional network of being able to find specialized information, Dan combined his love of research and travel and began helping travelers plan personalized vacations.

Tripdata is not a travel agency in the conventional sense. Our business model is different in that we are paid by our clients to research the possibilities and recommend the best options for their travel needs. We make no commission on any of their purchases. In this way, we have no vested interest in steering our clients towards particular vendors. Unlike most travel agencies, we are not limited in our recommendations to only those vendors and suppliers with whom we have made certain partnerships.
We serve a sophisticated niche of travelers for whom travel is more thoughtful and tailored to their desires. With a sense of curiosity and appreciation, we encourage our clients to describe the perfect setting for them, and the feelings they are hoping to experience. Then, we find the lodgings, guides, activities, etc. to make this vision come true.
